Xeriscaping comes from a combination of two words: "xeri" derived from the Greek word "xeros" for dry; and "scape", meaning a kind of view or scene. While xeriscape translates to mean "dry scene," In essence, xeriscaping is landscape design that has been customized to withstand drought conditions. Slow-growing, drought tolerant plants are used to conserve water and reduce maintenance.
Native/indigenous plants are plants that develop, occur naturally, or exist for many years in an area. Most plants that grow in “the wild” around this area are considered native/indigenous plants.
Ethnobotany is study of the relationship between people and plants. Ethnobotany studies the complex relationships between the uses of plants and cultures. The focus of ethnobotany is on how plants have been or are used, managed and perceived in society.
We don’t offer lawn maintenance (mowing or weed wacking), but we do offer maintenance to existing beds, shrubs and trees. As well as a seasonal clean up and re-fertilization of existing yards.
Smartscape landscaping does not lay sod / grass, and does not do yard maintenance and upkeeping like mowing or weed whacking. Smartscape does not do chain link fences. Smartscape also does not incorporate pesticides in our systems or solutions.
We work mainly in the Kimberley/Cranbrook area, but have worked also in Fernie, Invermere and Golden. Give us a call, we are willing to travel for interesting projects.
Contact us & we will arrange an appointment. When we meet we will discuss your project, measure and photograph the area. The next step will be to create a design, and once we have agreed upon a design, we will then work out a quote based on that design.
